Playwright/ Artist/ Educator

Brenda Fager

I’ve been immersed in the world of theatre since childhood. From creating stories for my dolls, Poor Pitiful Pearl and Mrs. Beasley, and stuffed animals, all 75, to pursuing my first bachelor’s degree in communications, my journey has been defined by a passion for storytelling. And now, with over 30 years of experience as a theatre artist/teacher, I’ve been everything from director to stage manager to costumer to lighting, sound and prop designer to “climber of three-story high scaffolding” in order to refocus lights for productions. No challenge is to big and no job is too lowly in my passion to nurture young artists in my classroom, to continue to grow my own skills as an artist, and to imagine and write incredible plays!

In 2018, I began a new chapter, pursuing my dream of further creative exploration by getting my MA and MFA in Creative Writing in Playwriting from Wilkes University Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing. I wrote my full-length play, Chasing the Carpe Diem, as a part of my thesis. In addition, finding a writing community has been one of the most transformative parts of my writing life. The Writers Group at the Dietrich Theater is an incredible group of writers from all genres where I’m able to inspire and encourage and be inspired and encouraged. If you don’t have a writing community of your own, you definitely need one! And if you live in the northeast PA area, you’ll find us in Tunkhannock, PA. And, finally, in an attempt to always “live in the moment” of my moments, and chronicle life’s profoundness, I write a blog called: Fuck the Sweaters. For its clever origin, you’ll have to click on the link and be prepared for my irreverent, imaginative take on life!
